Quentin and Jo Tomkies along with Darren Paterson will be leading the charge for Cootamundra in Country Hope’s Riverina Redneck Rally in March.

They’ll take along their faithful Ford Falcon ute and wagon along a journey for five days to help raise money to support children diagnosed with cancer and other chronic life-threatening illnesses.

To participate in the rally, the two teams are looking to raise $2500 and are hoping to sign up sponsors and supporters. “All the money stays in the Riverina with Country Hope,” Mr Tomkies said. The fundraising rally is one of the biggest events for Country Hope and will travel around the Riverina, NSW and ACT along back-roads and dirt tracks.

“It’s all unsealed roads to outback towns and out of the way places,” Mr Tomkies said. “All cars are two-wheel-drive and there’s few sealed roads. It can be quite punishing on cars. “The difference between this rally and other rallies is it’s for people who can’t spend more than a week off work.”

Mr Tomkies said as well as spare tyres, tools and a bit of fuel the teams would be dragging their tents and swags along.

Team Redneck Rampage will bring their Ford XH Falcon ute which still rolls without a problem even after previous owners drove it far out into the outback.

Bush mechanics are usually on hand to help when something breaks. Mr Tomkies said the ute had a bit of work done, including bull-bar, lights, four-wheel drive tyres as well as some flare including truck smoke stacks, running lights, huge mud flaps and plenty of sponsors’ logos.

“The engine is basically factory standard,” he said. “It fit the budget and was something that we could drive the wheels off.”

As well as the ute, Mrs Tomkies in Team 50 Shades of Redbeck will be behind the wheel of the Falcon wagon.

About the Rally

On 5th March 2018 Riverina Redneck Rally will leave Hillston and return to Darlington Point on March 9th. The rally will be a 5 day journey into the unknown.
