Welcome

Cootamundra’s Quentin Tomkies and Darren Paterson are going on an adventure, the Riverina Redneck Rally in March. The five-day rally raises funds for Country Hope, a family centred support organisation for children diagnosed with cancer and other life threatening illnesses.

The charity began by supporting 30 families and today assists more than 155 children and their families in the Riverina and Murray regions. Every day is a mystery with drivers and their passengers not told where they are heading until they are ready to set off in the morning.

The rally will leave Darlington Point on March 18 with teams returning to Wagga on March 22 after covering 2500km.

It was Quentin who originally saw the rally promoted on social media and he was quick to decide it was something he wanted to do. Darren was just as quick to jump on board. “Anything for charity, I’m willing to do – it’s a great cause,” he said.

The pair investigated the rally and determined it was something they would love to have a go at. They have named themselves ‘Redneck Rampage’ and purchased a 1999 XH Falcon for the occasion and are hoping to raise as much money as they can for the charity before they set off.

Neither have done anything like this before and can not wait for the experience. “It is an entry-level rally so is perfect for our first one,” Mr Tomkies said. Much of the route will be on dirt tracks which Quentin and Darren said they are both looking forward to.

“I can’t wait to stop in the little towns along the way,” Darren said.

They will camp under the stars along the way together with the 39 other teams entered.

About the Rally

On 18th March 2017 Riverina Redneck Rally will leave Darlington Point and return to Wagga Wagga on March 22nd. The rally will be a 5 day journey into the unknown. The team will need to be at Darlington Point early Friday night for the briefing and pre rally organisation of Redneck Teams. And at the end of the rally in Wagga Wagga we will finish up at Country Hope head office and a final BBQ to finish off.

The task for competitors, find a reliable car making sure it is registered, insured and air conditioned for the soft ones amongst us and ready to go on an adventure. You will only need a car (2wd) , as 4WD not allowed as this is a car rally not an offroad rally. However there will be rough and corrugated roads so be prepared. If you want to modify your vehicle i.e; bash plates, shocks etc that is up to you, however it is not needed.

Teams must raise a minimum of $2500 to participate in the rally, with how they go about this up to them.
